A Poem in the Time of COVID-19

Pandemic

Empty are the shelves

Cafés and stadiums

Crowded are the isles

Our minds, they loudly hum

Obedient are schools

No airplanes in the sky

Curious are children

Repressed, a parent’s cry

Tired are the doctors

The beds are numbered, too

How dare we choose denial

Scientists, they knew

Cracked hands we see on nurses

Frontlines are redefined

Concerted are our efforts

Unity we find

Most will live, but some will die

The virus wears its crown

Peace we wish to see and know

Exasperation now

A world left on its axis

Spins and spins and spins

She’s known her limit all along

Yet hope lies deep within

I’m choosing creativity and compassion while quarantined. Today, I wrote my first poem.

P.S. Jamie Beck recently wrote about the importance of growing as an artist during this uncertain and isolated time. I am fully on board with this call to action, and my goal is to continue learning and exploring my mind, heart, and the photos, recipes, and thoughts they generate as one. Together, we can share our creations by using #isolationcreation on Instagram. Join me.
