My Favorite Postpartum Items

We welcomed our second son, Ellis Hugh O’Leary, on November 04, 2024. Since then, we have spent the majority of our time at home.

I very purposely pursue motherhood, and therefore, I very purposely pursue an inevitable postpartum period. Nonetheless, this period, the ‘fourth trimester’, can be very challenging at times.

Remaining cozy at home has allowed me to physically heal, establish breastfeeding, create new rhythms, and hold my four-year-old—physically and emotionally—as we move through this time of profound transition.

Throughout this expansive season, it has felt essential to eat healthily, hydrate consistently, and clothe myself in a comfortable, breastfeeding-friendly wardrobe. I often wear a bathrobe, a pajama set, fuzzy socks, and slippers.

Last week, when Ellis was nearly six weeks old, I drove to our family cabin to meet my close friend and colleague, Lauren, for my first afternoon away from home. I traded my bathrobe and pajama set for an accessible sweater vest, a piece that allowed me to feel put together and easily nurse my infant at any moment once home.

Here, I’m wearing the Women's Mongolian Cashmere Fisherman Sweater Vest by Quince.
